ABSTRACT
The process of change in the international security environment has resulted
in the need for adjustments in the current security policy of NATO. As the key
to Alliance security are indicated blended threats, and Russia’s desire to strengthen its position in the international arena through a return to dominance in
the former Soviet Union. NATO sees the need to take measures to combat the
aggressive Russian policy. NATO Summit in Newport and in Warsaw shows
that efforts are adequate to the immanent danger of security. As the challenges
for NATO are indicated: maintaining the transatlantic link, growing in strength
and importance of China, India, Brazil, decreasing importance of international
security organizations and internal destabilization in the EU.
