ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the phenomenon of comorbidities in individuals on the autism spectrum, which occurs worldwide and poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Comorbidity in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is not an exception but rather a rule. Therefore, a holistic diagnostic approach and interdisciplinary care—which take into account the possible coexistence of other disorders—are essential. Early identification and comprehensive support enable more effective therapeutic interventions and lead to improved quality of life for individuals on the spectrum and their families. Minors aged 14 to 18 often face a multidimensional burden in the form of overlapping disorders, which puts them in a highly vulnerable psychological and physical state. The aim of the conducted research was to explore the phenomenon of comorbidity among adolescents, examine its impact on their daily functioning, and highlight the challenges it presents to medical professionals, psychologists, therapists, and educators. The study employed analysis of medical documentation, including interviews, physical examinations, and observational records prepared by doctors, therapists, educators, and psychologists. The research was conducted among a group of adolescents hospitalized at the Mazovian Center of Neuropsychiatry in Józefów between October 2024 and March 2025.
