ABSTRACT
It is for many reasons extremely significant nowadays, to define the
role and meaning of the authority of the researcher. The most important
aspect, however, seems to be the possession of a scientific and moral authority. Presently it is not enough to meet certain criteria described in scientific literature or to have very broad technical knowledge and appropriate, significant scientific achievements, to be recognized as an actual
authority by the academic community. Broad intellectual horizons and excellent knowledge of scientific rigor are insufficient. Social requirement is
honesty and scientific accuracy and proper moral attitude toward students,
expressed in the reliable performance of the didactical duties, as well as
kind and a partnership approach to them.
The analysis of decline of researchers authorities popularity has been
made through the prism of student evaluations of teaching competence of
academic staff and their relationships with students. The author is giving
few theses which he verifies through the available sources. He pays particular attention to the needs of students for possession of professional experience gained outside of work at the university by academic staff. While
you cannot prejudge explicitly the need of development of the so-called
“Pure scientific theory”, it should be remembered that science has also
a practical dimension and should be based on the expertise and experience of researchers working with academic youth.
