ABSTRACT
Police developed mechanisms to work against the phenomenon of crime -including corruption - in their own professional environment. Since 1998, they are based primarily on the work of the Internal Affairs Bureau of Police Headquarters. Bureau takes the operational activities, realizes investigative actions (on behalf of the prosecution) during probes into police officers and police staff and developes analytic work and prophylactic activites. Bureau has 373 employees and has departments in all provincial cities across the country. During validating information about the crime committed by the police officers, shall be adopted in two equivalent versions - the existence of crime and slander committing. Bureau realizes especially dynamic activities in fields of threat: corruption at traffic control , disclosure of secrecy, police officer`s cooperation with criminal groups, the overuse of violence and fraud. The period of growth of the number of initiated investigations and police officers under charges of committing crimes was between 2007 and 2009. Afterwards, those parameters noticeable dropped. It shows the level of risk of crime in a police environment. These data maintain at a similar lever for several years. As an example, there were 399 prosecutions (initiated on the grounds of materials given by IAB) in which 360 police officers heard a total of 1,089 charges. In comparison to the police employment at the end of 2013 (97 697 officers), the percentage of those who was charged with a crime is 0.37 %. Intensive anti-corruption prevention activities of IAB have undoubtedly influence on decrease in the level of criminal risk. Those activities are meetings with police employees and police schools listeners, cooperation with management and legislative initiatives
